Michigan universities finish second in early October collegiate regattas

The first blustery weekend in October was a busy one for collegiate sailing in Michigan. Michigan college teams had two regattas to choose from; The Cary-Price Intersectional, hosted by University of Michigan and the Cedarfest Regatta, hosted by Michigan State.
The Cary-Price Intersectional was sailed out of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club and featured an 8 school field competing in 420s.  Winds above 20 forced the cancellation of Saturday racing, however improved conditions allowed for 10 races (5 per division) to take place on Sunday. In the end, Notre Dame edged out the Wolverines by one point, with Northwestern finishing third.
The Cedarfest Regatta on Lake Lansing featured teams largely from Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois competing in Flying Juniors. Gusty wind conditions forced a cancellation of Saturday racing; however 10 races were sailed Sunday under improved conditions. When the dust settled,  Ohio State University came out as the overall winner, followed by Western Michigan, and a third place Northwestern finish. Other Michigan teams finished 5th (Michigan State), 6th (Michigan Tech), and 10th (Northern Michigan) in the 12 team field.
Collegiate sailing returns to Michigan on October 15-16 with the Boudeman Cup hosted by Western Michigan and the Gull Lake Yacht Club.
