It's Labor Day weekend. The marinas and dockyards will be busy soon; hoisting and storing. Too bad. Some of the best winds will be in September and October. Heck, High school and Collegiate sailing will just be starting up. On the SailMichigan calendar we see about 10 more events for the year, not including a host of club specific events to finish out the season. I personally like the Clark Lake Fall Regatta in late September. The Clark Lake Yacht Club is a friendly bunch and the event is usually attended by multiple dinghy classes. Of course, the weather is always a role of the dice. Some of the most beautiful sailing is in late September, but also the possibility for 40 degree morning temps. We also have mixed allegiances during this time of year; College and Pro ball is starting and I don't get good reception of the game while hiking out!
So, get out and make this holiday weekend a good one. Enjoy the breezes that September has to offer before packing it in for the season. As for you hard-water sailors, your turn is coming up!
